Michael Steigerwald

Personal motto
”Wood is living and working. Me too.”

The artist and wood sculptor Michael Steigerwald was born in Rottenberg near Aschaffenburg in 1955. He visited the vocational school for wood sculptors from 1978 and worked after his apprenticeship as a restorer at Hummel’s in Heiligenberg.

After six years as a sculptor in the workshop of the successful sculptor and author of mystery plays Helmut Lutz in Breisach he passed his master examination in 1987. In the following year, the artist opened his first own workshop in Bischoffingen am Kaiserstuhl.

In the 32 years since 1990 the workshop had moved to Haslach in the Kinzigtal and finally to the Baden Steinach. Since 1992 he has been a member of the Community of Christian Artists. (GCK) of the Archdiocese of Freiburg, the BBK Karlsruhe and the Kunstverein‘s Mittleres Kinzigtal. The work shaped by the artist is sacred and determined by strong beliefes in the binding and linking. In his sculptures one meets the commitment to people, as well as to things and passions like “collecting or sculpting or loving and religion or faith“, as Michael Steigerwald himself says.
